echos diary
SEPTEMBER 2, 2001
Well. I guess this is it, everyone. In the past month, Midnight Echos has virtually concluded their creative and recording process, and then we had to say goodbye to Utkarsh as he left for his life in New York as a drama student @ NYU. Nick and Zia still have one year left of high school, but without Utkarsh there is no more Midnight Echos. So until he comes back to town, no more music will be coming from this trio. However, they did finish recording most of what they wanted to finish, and the product is astounding. Their CD, still as of yet untitled, will be out in the Fall. Also, look out for both Zia and Nick, who are working on their respective solo albums. They'll miss this. They'll miss you.
APRIL 15, 2001
Happy Easter! The band is getting pretty exciting lately, ever since Zia got his new recording equipment and we laid down a new version of "See Me Cry," now in more of a ballad form. The song sounds great, and the quality is as awesome as it's ever been. We are working like dogs to get this CD out, but it's so hard to do. So hard. With school, theater (Nick is playing the Devil in "Damn Yankees" - come see it!) and life (like parents, who ever said they had to be part of living?) it's so hard to put together a CD and become famous these days. Well, good luck to us. Thanks, us!
FEBRUARY 17, 2001
Hey everyone, it's Nick. Sorry it's always me making these entries, but Zia and Utkarsh have been busy and I have been - well - slacking in terms of music. But it's cool, my grades were good 1st semester. I just wanted to check in and tell you what's goin on with us lately. We've been "hard at work" on the new CD, rather, we've been procrastonating due to Utkarsh's numerous college auditions (he got in a bunch of places already!! - who knew he had a brain). But we did record a version of "Dear You" that Zia seems to like (he's the mixing genius behind this CD), although our "Middle Man" didn't work out so well. But we've all been writing new stuff, so be sure to be impressed by both our first album's release, and the next one, which will be out by the time Ut gets his freakin Masters Degree.
JANUARY 24, 2001
Hey guys! Guess what! Utkarsh and Zia did some research and found out that John Mayer, the band's official musical idol and insipiration, was playing in Charlestown, VA - near the UVA campus. So we all went down there and checked out the show. Let me tell you, it was amazing. He did about an hour of stuff (a lot considering he was opening for another artist - Glen Phillips - Zia's favorite ex-Toad frontman), and it was absolutely awe-inspiring. I (Nick) didn't say a word the whole time. If he can do what he did to me last night, I'm sure we can do that to people too. We WILL.
JANUARY 16, 2001
Hey everyone, sorry it's been so long since we last wrote. We'd just like to thank everyone who came to our slammin free concert on New Years Day 2001 - they ate some great food, drank some great drink, and heard some awesome music even we didn't think we were capable of. Nick would like officially apologize for being the goofiest, most raunchy of the bunch. We would also like to apologize for the lack of CDs at the concert, but to tell u the truth, they wouldn't be as good as they will be had we rushed the recording process. So if you are interested in CDs, just give Nick a call at (301) 229-0589, and get on the list! Thanks again for comin everyone, you all rock.
DECEMBER 14, 2000
Hey guys it's Nick and Zia. We just finished our first day of a weekend-long recording session, where we will be putting together our first CD! As of now, we've only mixed and mastered "See Me Cry," and let me just say that it sounds bangin. The CDs will eventually be sold online, but you can pick up the FIRST EVER copies at the Synergy Concert, our second performance technically, but our first really performance for people we care about - you.
OCTOBER 21, 2000
Hey everyone
it's me, Z. It's 56 after midnight and I'm in a very good mood.
Zak Kilberg came back tonight from college for a visit. We all
went out to dinner with him and a bunch of other people. While we
were there, we saw two folk singers perform. As slick as can be,
Nick asked the manager if we could play a 2-song set before they
closed. At first, they said it woudln't be possible. I was kinda
glad... it would be tough for a first gig. But they eventually
told us we could and we played "Fading Echos" and an
acoustic version of "Angel I Call Mine." It was
exciting and everyone supported us.
"We aren't really a band. We're singers
that play, mind you, and our music is just a byproduct of our
reaction to the drug we can't live without - music. We're getting
our fixes, don't you worry."
- Zia
We know what you're thinking.
"When oh when is that Midnight Echos record going to be
released?"
The answer?
No idea. We have been working our asses off over the past few
months, day and night, weekends, holidays, etc. to bring you our
much-anticipated album. Things have been tough for us. Managing
our own lives, work, and Ryan leaving us recently sure have made
our life as a group a little difficult.
But nonetheless!
We're aiming for a promo by the end of the year, and definitely a
record sometime soon. Also, if we can get our acts together, we
might have a culmination concert to show the world what kind of
sinergy Nick, Utkarsh and Zia have :)
In the meantime though we've made A LOT of progress since the MTC
sessions in June '00. We're finally finding music within each
other and becoming a team, a collaborative effort...rather than
threree individual songwriters.
Utkarsh brings his goofy sensibility and amazing vocal talent to
the group. He's the reason that our record has been delayed, but
DAMN was that a smart move. We weren't ready.
Nick rocks our world with his alternative rock/pop style of
singing, sprinkled with musical theater influence. And his
dedication blows us all away. He's the reason for our group's
epiphany.
And there's Zia. He's the real musician of the group. It seems
like every day he comes in with a new un-precedented melody or
set of lyrics that keeps us in awe all the time.
The three of us are a triangle, and this amazing, creative energy
flows through it. Without one corner, the triangle disappears. So
keep your ears ready...and prepare for our explosion. :-) Love,
Zia
